Wk 14: Celebrate Your Life!

I am almost finished! This course has been a great learning experience for me as I consider a future as an entrepreneur. Spring break can't come soon enough!

As I look back on all that has been taught, I would wrap it all up like this:

Life is work. Work is hard. If at all possible, build a career around those things that bring you joy and allow you to grow into the person you are striving to be. Your life's work should represent all those things that you hold dear. It's impossible to know what the end will look like exactly but you probably have a pretty good idea of what you want it to be. All of your preparation, whether it is a formal education, working your way up through a company, or gaining skills in the millions of ways that are out there, will lay the foundation for achieving your dreams. Each stone, each step, each decision, is worth it when it brings you closer to your goals.

Shoot for the stars and then take the time to build the type of rocket that can get you there.

For years, I have imagined owning a successful small business. Plans have been made, ideas discussed. Entrepreneursip has stayed in the future. In the mean time, I have built a small painting business on my own. I have repeat customers, loyal clients, and enjoy the results from word of mouth advertising. My dream of owning an event planning business is actually past the beginning stages. I have been working as an event planner for several years part-time. I have enjoyed every minute of it. The income earned from these "side jobs" has paid for two weddings (soon to be three), one mission, several vacations, and a few home renovations. Not too bad for "not being an entrepreneur." What I realize now after a semester of intense learning, is that I have been taking those baby steps all along. The fear of failure has caused me to label my work as a little side thing, or just work, rather than being a business owner.

So if you are considering being an entrepreneur, know that EVERYTHING you do is contributing to your plan. Believe that every risk you take, each time you fail or succeed, all the time planning, doodling, or researching is actually part of the big picture. You are already on your way!
